Zalingei, 23 July 2015
Rwanda Peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNAMID) started on 22 July 2015, the construction of a Youth Hall Centre for Hamadiya Internal Displaced Persons Camp in Zalingei, Central Darfur in Sudan. The IDP camp with about 45 thousand people under protection by Rwanda Peacekeepers is located at five kilometers from their Super Camp. The youth hall shall have capacity to accommodate 200 people.
The project is sponsored by UNAMID through Quick Impact Projects initiative. It was inaugurated by the UNAMID Central Sector Commander Brig Gen George Rwigamba together with Shaffi Abdalla Hamadiya the IDP Camp Leader and Lt Col Venant Bizimungu Rwanda Battalion (Rwanbatt42) Commanding Officer.
Brig Gen George Rwigamba said at the inauguration function that the UNAMID through Rwanda Peacekeepers endeavor to work hand in hand with the population of Zalingei in the search of peace and security and value so much the collaboration granted by the people of Zalingei.
He said that the Youth Hall Centre will be useful for the entertainment. The Youth Hall will be also helpful for the youth because it will enable them to meet and share constructive ideas in the purpose of building peace and security. “Insecurity has a great impact on youth that are the future of a nation”. Gen Rwigamba said.
