Rwanda Defence Force fallen peacekeepers laid to rest at Military Cemetery

Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), family and friends on 15 August 2015 bid farewell to late S/Maj Ntwarabugabo Peter, S/Maj Nduwayezu Ferdinand, Sgt Bizimana Fidel, Sgt Ruseka Bernard and Sgt Gasigwa Eric.

The first four RDF peacekeepers were shot and dead by a RDF Soldier serving also in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) on 8 August at Rwanda Battalion Headquarters (RWABATT 2) in Bangui. One of the injured soldiers in the unfortunate incident Sgt Gasigwa Eric died later at Nakasero Hospital on August 10.

On behalf of H.E President Paul Kagame and Commander-In-Chief of the RDF, Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe read the Eulogy to the bereaved families of the departed comrades and to the RDF Family. He comforted them for losing such a big number of long serving, experienced and patriotic sons of Rwanda. “It is not only a loss to the families of these soldiers, but to the RDF and the entire nation”, he told the mourners at Kanombe Military Cemetery.

The Minister of Defence commended also the bravery RDF Soldiers serving in MINUSCA for their professionalism and quick intervention. “I commend the bravery of the RDF (RWABATT 2) who immediately engaged the assailant, killing him and saving the lives of more RDF lives”, he said.

During the funeral ceremony, Family members lauded Late comrades for their special bravery, patriotism, discipline and family love. 

The funeral ceremony of the deceased started with prayers, paying last respects and finally laid to rest at Kanombe Military Cemetery with final military salute.
