Rwanda Defence Force peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 22 anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The commemoration was held at Rwanbatt3 headquarters, M’Poko SOCATEL Camp in Bangui city.
During the commemoration, the Government of the Central African Republic was represented by the Defence Minister, Mr Joseph BINDOUME. After lighting the flame of remembrance and paying respect to the victims of the Genocide by laying down a wreath of flowers, Minister BINDOUME expressed his condolences to the Rwandan people especially those who lost their relatives and friends during the Genocide against the Tutsi. He also informed the audience that his Government lauded Rwanda’s efforts in the fight against genocide ideology.
“On behalf of my government, I convey condolences to the victims of this tragedy occurred in Rwanda; however, I personally and my government appreciate the efforts put forward by the government of Rwandan to fight against genocide ideology within Rwanda and abroad”, Mr. Bindoume said.
On behalf of Rwandan Community, Mr. MPANO Aimable explained to the mourners the essence of commemoration. “We commemorate to remember and to give honour for our fallen beloved ones”,he said, before underlining that the remembrance is a tool to the fight against the genocide ideology.
“I ask all of you present today to be our ambassadors wherever you are, and I hope you cannot allow such atrocities in human kind to happen in your respective communities. For us in Rwanda even though our people were perished but the resilience of the Nation remains”, said Mr. Mpamo.
Other dignitaries who were present included Mr. ALIOU Sene the MINUSCA Chief of Staff, Col Frederick ITANGAYENDA, senior representative of RDF in MINUSCA, Lt Col Claver Kirenga the Commanding Officer of Rwanbatt3 and ACP Gilbert R. GUMIRA the police Contingent Commander. Peacekeepers from other foreigner contingents serving under MINUSCA, Religious leaders and local leaders attended also the ceremony.
