General Jean Bosco KAZURA was appointed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in November 2019. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Commandant of Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDF CSC) since October 2015.

General Jean Bosco KAZURA has held various Command and Staff appointments in the RDF including; Commander of Infantry Battalion, Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Brigade Commander, Commandant of Rwanda Military Academy Gako, Commandant of RDF Combat Training Center Gabiro, he served as Chief  J3 (Operations, Plans and Training at the Defence Headquarters) and Commander of the Republican Guard.

General Jean Bosco KAZURA also served Senior Military and Security  Advisor to HE the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of RDF, Special Advisor to the Minister of Defence, RDF Spokesperson, Chairman War Council, Chairman Specialized War Council. He served as the Deputy Force Commander of African Union Mission (AMIS) Darfur, Sudan and Force Commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

General Jean Bosco KAZURA is a graduate of the National War College Abuja, Nigeria and the Defence Services Command and Staff College Lusaka, Zambia. He holds A Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Social Science, Diploma in Law, Senior Management Certificate from Ottawa, Canada and Senior Management Certificate La Rochelle, France.

General Jean Bosco KAZURA is a recipient of the following awards; National Liberation Medal, Campaign against Genocide Medal, Foreign Campaign Medal, Presidential Inauguration Medal, Peace Support Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Command Ribbon, Community Service Ribbon. He is married and blessed with Four Children.
