General Patrick Nyamvumba, Chief of Defence Staff – RDF since 22 June 2013.
General Patrick Nyamvumba was born on 11 June 1967, he has held various staff and command appointments in the RDF that include, Commander of Infantry Battalion, Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Infantry Brigade in 1995, 1996 and 1997 respectively. Between 1998 and 1999, he served as Chief of Operations, Plans and Training at the Defence Headquarters.
General Patrick Nyamvumba also served as the Commandant of the Force Preparation Centre between 2004 and 2006. Other relevant responsibilities in his military career include the Chairperson of Rwanda Defence Establishment Committee, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Defence Budget, Project Coordinator for the establishment of the Rwanda Defence Academy and the focal point for AU/UN operations, including MoU negotiations on behalf of the Government of Rwanda.
General Patrick Nyamvumba is a graduate of Nigerian Defence Academy and Zambia Defence Services Command and Staff College. He also completed National Security Studies at South African Defense College in 2003.
General Patrick Nyamvumba has participated in a number of seminars, conferences and workshops in Security Sector Reform, International Humanitarian Law and Peace Keeping Operations Conferences and Senior Leaders Seminar both in Africa and USA.
General Patrick Nyamvumba was the Chief of Logistics before being appointed as Force Commander UNAMID where he served from September 2009 to March 2013.
