7th CISM World Military Games kick off in China
Wuhan City-China, 19 October 2019
The 7th International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Military Games kicked off yesterday in Wuhan City, China. The multi-sport event for military sports people is organized under the theme “Military Glory world peace and eco-sustainability and conviviality for all participants”. The games bring together a total of 9,308 soldiers from 109 countries all over the world
The Rwanda Defence Force teams were led by Brig Gen JB Ngiruwonsanga and are divided in four disciplines (Shooting, Taekwondo, Beach Volleyball and Athletes).
The President of the People's Republic of China, H.E Xi Jinping presided over the opening ceremony and he expressed hope that the participants of different countries would display the sports spirit of tenacity and the power of sports to dispel the shadow of war, to bridge communications between different cultures and to bring together people's heart for peace.
Some of the opening games results were as follows: MEN FOOTBALL:ALGERIE 1- QATAR 1, USA 0 -IRLAND 2, GREECE 2 - CANADA 1, OMAN 1- EGYPT 0
Rwanda Defence Force Shooting Team will compete on 19th October while other disciplines are scheduled for next week.
The Military World Games are the top sporting event for military personnel around the world. They are always held every four years since their launch in 1995. Rwanda is participating for the 3rd time.
