DEFENCE ATTACHÉS ACCREDITED TO RWANDA RECEIVE BRIEFING ON THE CURRENT SECURITY SITUATION

Today, the Ministry of Defence/Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) hosted Defence Attachés and Associates accredited to Rwanda for a comprehensive briefing on the current security situation in the country and the region, as well as on the RDF's engagements in peace supprot operations under multilateral and bilateral frameworks. The delegation was welcomed by Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa, Director General of International Military Cooperation.
Hon Juvenal Marizamunda, Minister of Defence, delivered opening remarks, commending the participants for their commitment to strengthening partnerships with the Ministry of Defence in support of peace and stability. He reaffirmed Rwanda’s dedication to working closely with bilateral and multilateral partners to address emerging security challenges.
During his presentation, Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa who was supported by RDF’s Chief J3 (Operations) and Head of Defence Intelligence, provided an in-depth briefing on the current security situation in Rwanda and the wider region. He emphasised the importance of continued engagement, transparency, and collaboration with partner nations and international institutions to promote peace regionally and globally.
After the presentations, attendees participated in an open discussion, exchanging views on shared security concerns, regional dynamics, and opportunities for enhanced cooperation. The event highlights the RDF’s ongoing commitment to international military diplomacy and to fostering mutual understanding with defence partners.
A total of 25 countries and organisations were represented at the session, including: the United States of America, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Sweden, Poland, Angola, Ghana, Botswana, South Korea, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Tanzania, Namibia, the European Union (EU), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Their participation reflects the growing network of defence and security cooperation between Rwanda and the international community.
