Today, staff members of the Military Medical Insurance (MMI) paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi laid to rest at the Mugina Genocide Memorial in Kamonyi District during a commemoration event.
As part of the commemoration, MMI donated five cows to survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and distributed 150 copies of the book Legacy for Youth to three schools in Mugina Sector, Kamonyi District. The donations were made as a gesture of solidarity and continued support for survivors as they rebuild their lives. The books are intended to help students better understand Rwanda’s history and learn valuable lessons from the country’s past.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Director General of Military Medical Insurance, Col (Rtd) Dr. King R. Kayondo, said that commemoration serves as a reminder of Rwanda’s tragic history, during which more than one million Tutsi were killed as a result of bad leadership and genocide ideology. “Through this commemoration, Military Medical Insurance staff take time to honor and pay tribute to the victims laid to rest here. We also support genocide survivors by donating cows, which will provide milk and create opportunities for economic development and self-reliance,” he said.
The Vice Mayor in charge of Economy in Kamonyi District, Uziel NIYONGIRA expressed solidarity with survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and assured them of continued support from the Government and all Rwandans.

He commended MMI for donating cows and books, describing the contributions as symbols of hope, healing, and economic empowerment. He also paid tribute to members of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) who sacrificed their lives to stop the genocide and liberate the country.
One of the beneficiaries, Mukamanzi Pelagie, expressed her gratitude to MMI for recognizing and supporting survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
