PRIME MINISTER NSENGIYUMVA OFFICIATED THE 21ST EDITION OF KWITA IZINA CEREMONY
Musanze, 4 September 2026---Prime Minister, Dr Justin Nsengiyumva represented H.E Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic of Rwanda at the 21st Edition of Kwita Izina baby gorillas naming ceremony that took place in Kinigi, Musanze District.
During this ceremony, 22 baby gorillas and one newly were named by various local and internationals guests and friends of Rwanda.
In his remarks, Prime Minister noted: “Kwita Izina is rooted in an old Rwandan tradition: when a child is born, they are named in the presence of family, friends and neighbours, a public welcome into the community and a pledge that they will be cared for and protected by the community as a whole. We extend that same spirit to the gorillas we have named today. Because a name for us is more than a celebration. It is a promise. And the promise we make to these gorillas is that they will have the protection, the habitat and the conditions they need to grow, thrive and reproduce.”
