REPUBLICAN GUARD AND MILITARY HEALTH SERVICE CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF RDF LIBERATION CUP 2026
The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) concluded the Liberation Cup Tournament 2026 today, 4 July 2026, at Kigali PelĂŠ Stadium, with thrilling football finals in both the menâs and womenâs categories. In the menâs final, the Republican Guard emerged as champions after a convincing 3â0 victory over BMTC Nasho. In the womenâs category, the Military Health Service secured a 2â1 win against the Military Police.

Trophies were awarded across multiple disciplines as follows:
Menâs Category
⢠Football: Republican Guard
⢠Volleyball: Special Operations Force (SOF)
⢠Basketball: BMTC Nasho
The top three teams in each discipline were also awarded medals in recognition of their outstanding performance, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defence, Hon. Juvenal Marizamunda; the State Minister in the Ministry of Sports, Hon. Rwego Ngarambe; the Chief of Defence Staff of the RDF, Gen MK Mubarakh; RDF service chiefs; defence attachĂŠs; the Mayor of the City of Kigali Mr. Dusengiyumva Samuel; as well as other RDF generals, senior officers, and football fans.
Presiding over the closing ceremony, the Minister of Defence, Hon. Juvenal Marizamunda, highlighted that this tournament is more than just a football competition. It is a celebration of the enduring spirit of determination, courage, and the pursuit of victory that distinguished the RPA during the Liberation War. That same spirit continues to define the Rwanda Defence Force wherever its members serve and under all circumstances.
Hon. Juvenal Marizamunda emphasized that, beyond the competition itself, the tournament fosters teamwork, strengthens unity and cohesion, and promotes a healthy and disciplined lifestyle through sports.
The Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force, General MK Mubarakh, commended all participating teams for their dedication and discipline throughout the tournament.
