Nyakinama, 1 April 2019
Thirty (30) course participants that include military, police and civilian personnel have today started a two week-long course dubbed “Integrated Mission Planning course” at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) in Nyakinama, Musanze District.
The course objective is to enable the participants gain knowledge and skills required to operate as staff officers within African Union (AU) and the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) peace support operations (EASF PSO).
During the opening ceremony, the EASF Joint Chief of Staff, Major General Charles Rudakubana said, “the Integrated Mission Planning course (IMPC) is a solid foundation that is capable of delivering the required skills which will enable participants carry out well-coordinated and integrated missions when need arises.”
He underlined the importance of the IMPC training which constitutes of a pre-deployment training and exclusive skills which contribute to the participants' understanding of the prevailing operating environment in peacekeeping missions.
The Director of Rwanda Peace Academy, Col Jill Rutaremara said the IMPC is crucial as it enhances the proficiency in the performance of participants’ duties once deployed in a peacekeeping mission.
“This course will enable participants perform various tasks in an effective, professional and integrated manner, that’s why it has brought together members of three components, military, police and civilians,” Col Rutaremara noted.
The IMPC course trainees are from EASF Member states, namely, Comoros, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Uganda and EASF staff.
