RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS CONDUCT MEDICAL OUTREACH AT BOSSEMBELE CORRECTIONAL CENTRE IN THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC
Rwandan peacekeepers serving with RWABATT-2, under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), today conducted a medical outreach at Bossembele Correctional Centre, providing free medical consultations and treatment to more than 90 beneficiaries.
During the outreach, RWABATT-2 also donated essential medicines to support the provision of healthcare services to detainees. The activity was organised to mark Literacy Day, highlighting the importance of reading and education in supporting rehabilitation and preparing detainees for their successful reintegration into society.
The event brought together local authorities and security stakeholders, including the Mayor of Bossembele, Mr. SEMUNGUBO Aristide; the Director of Bossembele Correctional Centre, Mr. Franklin; the Commander of the Zone de Défense de Bossembele, Major YAVALAS of the Forces Armées Centrafricaines (FACA); representatives of the Gendarmerie and Police; the Prosecutor General of Bossembele; and the MINUSCA representative, Madam Leïla Ben Othman. RWABATT-2 personnel were led by the Contingent Commander, Colonel Laurent Kalisa Munana.
Speaking after the outreach, the Mayor of Bossembele, Mr. SEMUNGUBO Aristide, commended RWABATT-2, particularly its medical team, for the successful initiative and its contribution to addressing the healthcare needs of detainees and members of the surrounding community.
“We have recognised this initiative as a valuable demonstration of RWABATT-2’s commitment to supporting the well-being of the people of Bossembele, strengthening community engagement, and fostering constructive cooperation with local authorities and other stakeholders,” Mayor Aristide said.
The activity further demonstrated the importance of cooperation among peacekeeping contingents, local authorities, security institutions, and the community in promoting the well-being of vulnerable populations and strengthening trust and collaboration.
