RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS IN SOUTH SUDAN HONOURED WITH UN MEDALS FOR EXEMPLARY SERVICE
Rwandan peacekeepers (Rwanbatt-1) serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were today awarded United Nations medals in recognition of their contribution to peacekeeping efforts.
The medal ceremony took place at the UN Tomping Compound in South Sudanâs capital, Juba.
The event was presided over by Major General Robert Yaw Affram, Deputy Force Commander of UNMISS, who emphasised the profound significance of the medal as a symbol of dedication and unwavering commitment to duty.
âThe United Nations Medal you have received today is a symbol of professionalism, discipline, sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to peace. It represents long days under challenging conditions, sleepless nights on operations, and the courage to stand firm in the face of uncertainty. It is earned, never given,â he said.
Major General Affram also expressed his appreciation to the Government of Rwanda and the Rwanda Defence Force for their continued deployment of disciplined, capable, and professional troops to UNMISS.
The Rwanbatt-1 Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Ndushabandi, commended the men and women of the battalion for their commitment, resilience, courage, and selfless service throughout their ten-month deployment.
âI urge the Rwanbatt-1 to maintain this momentum for the remainder of the deployment. Todayâs medal-pinning ceremony marks yet another significant milestone in our noble service to humanity,â he stated.
The ceremony featured a colourful military parade, during which the Rwanbatt-1 cultural troupe showcased both their discipline and Rwandaâs rich cultural heritage.
