RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS PLANT FRUIT TREES AND DONATE SPORTS EQUIPMENT TO SOUTH SUDANESE

Rwandan Peacekeepers (RWANBATT 3), serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) carried out a series of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities at Jebel Christian School in the outskirts of the capital city, Juba.
The event brought together peacekeepers, students, teachers local leaders to perform community support activities to include planting fruit trees, carrying out environmental awareness session, donating sports equipment and providing clean water; all aimed at improving the well-being and development of the young learners.
As part of its support for physical education, RWANBATT 3 donated footballs, volleyballs and football jerseys to the school. These items are expected to significantly enhance the students’ extracurricular experience, fostering teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness.
In addition to promoting environmental awareness and sports, the battalion also provided clean water to the school.
The headteacher, Mr Tong Garang expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support, noting that the donations would motivate students and increase their participation in sports. He also encouraged the Rwandan peacekeepers to continue their commendable humanitarian efforts.
Col Leodomir Uwizeyimana, Contingent Commander of RWANBATT 3, stated that the initiative was intended to support the aspirations of young minds and nurture their potential to become future leaders of South Sudan. He further reminded the local residents of that peacekeepers are committed to helping communities build a peaceful and prosperous future.
On behalf of Jebel Christian School, the founder, Bishop James Baak, acknowledged the generous contribution of the Rwandan peacekeepers. He particularly praised the donation of fruit trees, describing it as a meaningful gift that will not only provide nutritious fruit but also enhance the beauty of the school grounds.
These CIMIC activities at Jebel Christian School reflects RWANBATT 3’s dedication to a holistic approach to peacekeeping; one that goes beyond security by actively supporting education, public health and environmental awareness within the host community.
