RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS PROVIDE FREE MEDICAL SERVICES TO REMOTE COMMUNITIES ALONG THE SHORES OF THE WHITE NILE
Rwandan peacekeepers deployed under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), together with their colleagues from UNMISS Malakal, today provided free medical treatment to residents of Diel Payam along the shores of the White Nile in Upper Nile State during a routine river patrol.
The medical services provided included consultations for common illnesses, malaria treatment, child healthcare, sensitization, and other general medical services. Essential medicines were also distributed free of charge to the residents.
Speaking during the outreach, the Diel Payam Administrator, Mr Jacob Bith Wuor expressed gratitude to the Rwandan peacekeepers and UNMISS for the timely medical assistance. He commended the peacekeepers for combining security patrols with humanitarian outreach, describing the visit as a demonstration of solidarity and care for the people of Upper Nile State.
Rwandan Contingent Commander, Lt Col Robert Rwagihungu, said that the medical team took advantage of the routine patrol to deliver much needed healthcare services to communities with limited access to medical facilities. He noted that the initiative reflects the commitment of Rwandan peacekeepers and UNMISS to protecting civilians while supporting the health and well-being of vulnerable communities along their area of operation.
The activity strengthened trust and cooperation between local communities and UN peacekeepers, highlighting the professionalism and dedication of RDF personnel. By integrating Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) within routine patrols.
