RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS UNDER UNMISS WIN FOOTBALL TITLE AND FINISH RUNNERS- UP IN VOLLEYBALL AT UN DAY SPORTS FINALS

 

As part of the activities marking the United Nations International Day of Peacekeepers, the football and volleyball finals were held on 30 May 2026 at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Headquarters, Tomping Base in Juba.

In the football final, Rwanbatt-3 faced the Giant Killers team, composed of UN civilian staff, in a closely contested match. After a goalless draw in regulation time, Rwanbatt-3 emerged victorious in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 9–8 to claim the championship title.In the volleyball competition, Rwanbatt-3 finished in second place after losing 3–0 to the Nepalese Contingent in the final.The tournament brought together military and police contingents from various troop-contributing countries serving under UNMISS, alongside teams made up of UN staff and local personnel, fostering camaraderie, teamwork, and esprit de corps among participants.
