Members of the Senate's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security meet with Hon Minister of Defence

On 13 October 2016, a delegation of Senators, members of the Parliament Chamber of Senate's Standing Comittee in charge of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security, visited the Ministry of Defence. The visiting delegation was led by Hon.

Mukakalisa Jeanne D’Arc,Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee, and comprised also Hon. Uyisenga Charles, Hon. Mushinzimana Appolinaire and Hon Bishagara Thérèse. They were received by, and held talks with, Hon Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe who was along with other officials from the Ministry.

After welcoming the delegation, Gen Kabarebe expressed gratitude to the guests for visiting the Ministry of Defence, which translates the existing good collaboration between the Ministry and the Senate's Standing Committee in Charge of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security.

Hon Mukakarisa explained to Hon Minister Kabarebe that their visit was actually in line with an exercise they have embarked on of visiting different Government Institutions, to asses how prepared those institutions are to deal with disasters that may affect the country. She also thanked the Ministry of Defence in general and Rwanda Defence Force in particular for always being at the forefront in disaster management.

At the Ministry of Defence, the Senators were extensively briefed on the “Role of Rwanda Defence Force in the awareness, prevention and response to Disasters”.
