In addition to brand new houses that can accommodate 200 households, the inaugurated model village comprises also 45 cowsheds, 45 Biogaz digesters, as well as 3.8 Km long internal access roads. Kabyaza Model Village is also connected to water and electricity facilities.
The project was realised thanks to the partnership between MINIRENA, One UN in Rwanda, and the RDF Reserve Force that executed all infrastructure related works.The village will provide decent accommodation to 200 most vulnerable communities that were relocated from high risk zones of Bigogwe, Kintobo, Shyira and Mukamira in Nyabihu District.
In his remarks, Hon Minister Vincent Biruta noted that the model village is a live demonstration of good collaboration between the Government, citizens and partners. “This is a good example demonstrating that when we join efforts we can really achieve a lot for the development of our people,” He said.
Minister Biruta commended the work done by RDF Reserve Force in constructing the houses and other infrastructures. He urged residents to use the opportunity to transform their lives.
On his side, the One UN Resident Coordinator in Rwanda, Mr Lamin Manneh said that the Model Green Village development in Rwanda constitutes an important solution to addressing the vulnerabilities of citizens in disaster prone areas as well as the constraints to effective service delivery to communities in scattered locations. “Many African countries are learning from Rwanda’s development experience, and I would like to salute the leadership of HE Paul Kagame who has prioritize Integrated Development Programme for rural settlement as one of key priority intervention to meet Rwanda needs”, Mr Lamin Manneh highlighted.
Mukanoheri Beatrice, mother for 8 children thanked the Government for the continued support to the Rwandan community. “Previously we were overwhelmed by frequent floods. Now we are relocated in a safer environment. I firmly commend our President, HE Paul Kagame for caring for vulnerable communities. As we enjoy security, shelter and infrastructures, this is a foundation that encourages us to work tirelessly for our development”, an emotional Mukanoheri said.
Throughout this year several Model Villages have been constructed and inaugurated in other parts of the country, such as the Kibangire Green Village in Rusizi District, Gashaki Green Village, in Musanze District and Rweru Model Village in Bugesera District.
