HE Paul Kagame, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of Rwanda Defence Force has commissioned 478 officer cadets to the rank of Second Lieutenant. The young officers graduated from an intense one year long military course at Rwanda Military Academy Gako, Bugesera District, on 23 February 2017.
While delivering his key note address, HE the President recalled to the newly commissioned officers that Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) they've joined has a historical background linked to the national history. It is from that background that RDF has always been committed to building Rwanda as well as protecting what have been achieved
HE the President further highlighted that the training received by the officers was in line with continued efforts of RDF professionalization towards that commitment. “The role of Rwanda Defence Force does not consist merely in protecting the country and its sovereignty, RDF has also the responsibility of contributing to national development and the good welfare of citizens”, the Commander-in-Chief pointed out.
The Acting Commandant of Rwanda Military Academy Gako, Col FT Mpaka reported that during the training, the officers demonstrated physical fitness and strong character and have graduated equipped with military skills that will allow them to efficiently fulfil their future assignments.
The colorful ceremony that was mainly marked by an impressive military parade was attended by other dignitaries including Hon Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe and other Cabinet Members, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, representatives from sister Security Organs, etc. Families and relatives of the newly commissioned officers were also present.
