Rwanda Defence Force, in partnership with other Government Institutions, has launched the Army Week 2017. The 2017 Army Week edition will include free medical services offered to the Rwandan Population, infrastructure development, agricultural and environmental protection activities.
The exercise that will be conducted countrywide in a two month period was officially launched in the Four National Provinces and the City of Kigali, on 4 May 2017.
IN THE CITY OF KIGALI, the Army Week launching activities were conducted in Kicukiro, Gasabo and Nyarugenge Districts.
In Kicukiro, the Army Week inauguration was marked by vegetables plantation in Mushumbamwiza marshland; initiation of renovation works for a 500m feeder road connecting Busanza to Gahanga Sector through Kagarama. The Guest of Honour was Hon James Musoni, Minister of Infrastructure, acompanied by the RDF Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, among other officials.
In his key note address to the population of Kicukiro, Minister Musoni hailed the good and visionary leadership of HE Paul Kagame who has set, among many others, the army week programme to support national development and social welfare of Rwandans. “This is the new aspect of the liberation struggle for sustainable and steady development of our country”, Minister Musoni told Kicukiro residents.
In Nyarugenge, where the Minister of Local Government, Hon Francis Kaboneka, officiated the Army Week launching, a feeder road was rehabilited, at least on a distance of 1,500m. Addressing the local population, Hon Kaboneka urged them to own the Army week activities as they are the first beneficiaries of the support provided the military.
IN EASTERN PROVINCE, the Army Week 2017 was officially launched in Nyagatare District, where Hon Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe was the Guest of Honour, accompanied by Eastern Province Governor, Kazayire Judith and other officials.
The launching activities were marked by the rehabilitation of Rurenge bridge, provision of potable water facility to more than 3500 Ryabega and Marongero residents. Hon Minister Kabarebe also laid a foundation stone for construction six classrooms and 24 toilets in Ndama Cell, Karangazi Sector.
In his remarks Hon Min of Defence explained to Nyagatare residents the Army Week background and significance. “Our joint efforts have allowed this country to achieve progress in different areas, thanks to the visionary leadership of HE President Kagame who said in 1992 that the then Rwanda Patriotic Army would be the foundation of Rwanda’s transformation”, Gen Kabarebe said.
IN WESTERN PROVINCE, a similar ceremony was held in Rutsiro and Nyamasheke Districts. In Rutsiro, the launching ceremony was officiated by Hon Geraldine Mukeshimana, Minister of Agriculture, alongside Lt Gen Fred Ibingira, the RDF RFCOS, among other officials.
In Nyamasheke, the Guest of Honor the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, in charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon Isaac Munyakazi was the Guets of Honor, accompanied by the RDF Chief J9, Maj Gen Jack Nziza.
IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE, the Army Week launching ceremony was held in Gisagara District. The Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government in charge of Social Affairs Hon Dr Alivera Mukabaramba was the Guest of Honor, along with the RDF AFCOS, Brig Gen Charles Karamba.
IN NOTHERN PROVINCE, it is in Gakenke District where the Army Week was launched at the province level. The function was presided over by. Hon Dr Patrick NDIMUBANZI, State Minister in Ministry of Health together with the RDF ACOS, Maj Gen Jacques Musemakweli.
The Army Week 2017 was successfully kicked off countrywide, with a huge turnout of an enthusiastic and thankful population.
During the ongoing two months campaign, the Rwandan population will benefit-particularly- from free medical services, in Orthopaedics, Dental, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat diseases), Ophthalmology & Gynecology, in nearly all District Hospitals and and Health Centres of the country.
