A contingent of seventy Rwanda Defence Force medical practitioners and supporting Staff (Rwamed III) departed from Kigali International Airport to Central Africa Republic, on 10 August 2017. The 70 medical personnel took over from their colleagues (Rwamed II) who have been serving in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic for the last 12 months.
The Peacekeepers were briefed on 08 August 2017 at RDF General Headquarters in Kanombe barracks, by the Army Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Jacques Musemakweli before departing for MINUSCA.
The Army Chief of Staff, underscored the importance of maintaining discipline in general with much emphasis on fighting sexual and gender based violence.
“Sexual exploitation is a serious offence within RDF as well as in the UN where you are going to spend the whole year…you have to protect the image of your country, the flag and the garment you are putting on with high level of discipline, remember your personal safety and security given the prevailing security situation in the mission area”, he advised members of Rwamed III under command of Col Dr Jean Chrysostome Kagimbana.
Col Dr Jean Chrisostome Kagimbana, the Commanding Officer of Rwandan Level 2 Hospital noted the Force’s readiness to the Mission ahead as required. “We are ready to perform well because we have spent three months in pre-deployment training at Rwanda Military Academy Gako, we are acquainted with Peace Support Operations”, he assured.
Rwandan Level 2 Hospital has a total of 20 medical personnel including medical practitioners and Medical Specialists of different caliber.
Under the United Nations standards, Level Two Hospital should have the capacity of treating up to 40 ambulatory out patients per day, provide three intensive care beds, stabilize and evacuate a casualty for evacuation to the next level of medical care among others.
The Rwamed II Peacekeepers who have been serving in MINUSCA and the People of CAR for the last 12 months landed at Kigali International Airport on 10 August, in the afternoon. They were received by Brig Gen Wilson Gumisiriza, the Head of Peace Support Operations at RDF Headquarters.
He congratulated the returning Peacekeepers for the job well-done during their 12 months tour of duty.
