Rwanda Air Force Gets 11New Helicopter Pilots

Eleven (11) RDF Helicopter Pilots have graduated in Akagera Aviation Academy after intense basic pilot training of 16 months. The graduation ceremony was graced by the presence of the Minister of State in charge of Transport in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ir Jean de Dieu UWIHANGANYE together with the Air Force Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Charles KARAMBA, the Rwandan Ambassador to Sweden HE Nkurikiyinka Christine and Akagera Aviation Managing Director, Mr NKURIKIYIMFURA Patrick.

While addressing the new pilots, the Minister of State in charge of Transport in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Eng. Jean de Dieu UWIHANGANYE said that “We should be happy for this achievement of having Rwandan pilots. Many children dream to become pilots and many times it becomes impossible but today due to the visionary leadership; it is a pleasure for having Rwandan helicopter pilots”. He reiterated to them that: “The Government has identified the significant skills gap in aviation, we are now developing it as a pillar of Rwandan Economy. Rwanda is a land locked but the airspace is not locked”.

In his remarks, Akagera Aviation Managing Director expressed gratitude for RDF support and thanked the young pilots for having demonstrated hard work and sacrifice during the 16 months of training. The graduates’ representative thanked RDF leadership for support and guidance that enabled them to achieve this title. “Thanks for trusting us, it was an exciting journey and we are ready to give our best for our country".

The 11 who graduated are part of the third intake trained by Akagera Aviation.
