32 families including 20 vulnerable ex-combatants have benefited from new shelters constructed in Rugeyo new Model Village, Mwiri Sector, in Kayonza District. The inauguration of the new Model Village and handover of constructed houses to beneficiaries took place on 23 March 2018.
The houses were jointly constructed by different partners including the Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission, Rwanda Institute of Cooperatives Entrepreneurship and Finance, Imbuto Foundation, the Rwanda Children Commission and Kayonza District.
The inauguration of Rugeyo new Model Village was graced by the Governor of Eastern Province, Mufulukye Fred who thanked all partners and called beneficiaries to keep working hard for the development and insure sustainability of all these achievements.
The Model Village has different infrastructures including classrooms
The RDF Army Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Jacques Musemakweli thanked RDF peacekeepers from Darfur together with Rwandan diaspora living in Darfur who gave out their money, for the good heart in construction of this model village. " RDF is engaged and will continue participating in various activities aiming at uplifting Rwandan People’s lives, especially the lives of the most vulnerable.” the ACOS said during the inauguration of Rugeyo Model Village.
The chairperson of the Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission, Mukantabana Seraphine said that so far the Commission has constructed 800 houses to vulnerable ex-combatants countrywide.
