RDF Citizen Outreach Programme 2018 launched countrywide

The RDF Citizen Outreach Programme 2018 was launched today countrywide with different activities aimed at uplifting the welfare of the citizens. This year RDF Citizen Outreach Programme is focused on providing free health care, improving health and sanitation, agricultural activities, shelter for the needy and building classrooms across the country.

In Western Province, the Minister of Defence Hon Gen James Kabarebe together with the State Minister in charge of Agriculture, Hon Nsengiyumva Fulgence joined residents in Nyabihu, in farming irish potatoes at Gitebe village, in Muringa Sector.

“The real security implies having healthy and developed people who enjoy good education, medical services, food; this is the real sense of security we thrive to achieve” Minister Kabarebe told citizens of Muringa. He emphasized that the joint effort between the population, RDF and other partners is key for the transformation of the country. Related video

In Northern Province, the Minister of Local Governance, Hon Francis Kaboneka together with Rwanda Defence Force Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Patrick Nyamvumba officially launched RDF Citizen Outreach Programme 2018 in Musanze District.

The participants to the RDF Citizen Outreach Programme 2018 (RDF COP 2018) in Musanze District at the first day rehabilitated eight houses for vulnerable people in Musanze Sector, Garuka Cell, Gacinyiro Village. After launching the socio-economic activities, the Minister of Local Government commended the RDF COP activities aimed at improving the social welfare of Rwandans and the civil military cooperation spirit. He urged Musanze residents to maintain and clean the houses rehabilitated for them.

The RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Nyamvumba, speaking on the occasion also requested for strengthened civil military cooperation towards national development. He recalled some of the RDF COP activities planned in the next three months countrywide.

“When you have strong security that is combined with good welfare, healthy, intelligent and productive youth, only then we can say we have a sustainable security”. Gen Patrick Nyamvumba told Musanze residents. Related video

In Eastern Province, the Minister of Health, Dr Diane Gashumba together with the Air Force Chief of Staff Maj Gen Charles Karamba launched medical activities at Rwamagana Hospital where RDF medics are providing diverse medical services.

Estimated 113,000 patients will be treated during the current RDF Citizen Outreach Programme. Minister Gashumba commended RDF COP activities that are born from the liberation struggle spirit.

She urged the local population to keep and uphold good hygiene and get early treatment to curb diseases and have a healthy population. This event was also attended by the Minister of Health of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Gai Kok with his delegation on an official working visit in Rwanda.

 

In Kigali City, the Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Isaac Munyakazi together with RDF 1 Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Mubaraka Muganga launched construction of 08 classrooms at Groupe Scolaire Kagugu, in Gasabo District, Kinyinya Sector. Minister Munyakazi thanked RDF for contributing in many ways in the development of Rwanda. He urged the citizens to send their children to school for them to provide them with a better future.

“Education is the only legacy you can easily give to your children to guarantee a better future for them” he said.

Inaugurated in 2009, the RDF COP has made tangible achievements in improving the wellbeing of Rwandans and contributing to ensuring human security. Through this program, the government has also been able to save money that was used in other developmental projects. In 2017, The RDF COP activities saved the Government Rwf 71billion Rwandan Francs.
