RDF Reserve Force hands over new model village to vulnerable families

Karongi, 28 April 2018 

Rwanda Defence Force Reserve Force handed over 35 modern houses constructed as four in one in Rugabano Integrated Model Village in Karongi District, Western Province on 29 April 2018.

The houses constructed by RDF Reserve Force in partnership with Ministry of Local Government, Karongi District and NAEB (National Agriculture Export development board) were handed over to 140 vulnerable families in Gitega Cell of Rugabano Sector, Karongi District. The Model village inaugurated, comprise of a multipurpose hall, health post, market or Agakiriro, a nursery school and a cowsheds.

The handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Disaster Management and Refugees Affairs Jeanne D’Arc DE BONHEUR, Governor MUNYENTWARI Alfonse and Brig. Gen Vincent Gatama representing RDF Reserve Force.  Before ceremony the officials with people of Rugabano sector joined for community work ‘umuganda’ around this new village model.

The Minister of Disaster Management and Refugees Affairs Jeanne D’Arc DE BONHEUR who officiated the hand over ceremony commended the RDF for its contribution to national development and urged Rugabano Model Village residents to maintain the infrastructure inaugurated. 

“The Government of Rwanda always cares about you, especially the RDF  so you should maintain these houses. The district will give you cows that will help you to develop, we are giving you 20 cows and others will come later” Minister said.


20 cows were also donated to vulnerable families who benefited houses

Governor of Western Province Munyentwari Alphonse commended the partnership that implemented the construction of Rugabano Model Village and requested local residents to use the infrastructure availed as a catalyst for their welfare and development.

One of the beneficiaries of the inaugurated houses, Mutuyimana Annonciate said “ I am very happy due to this incredible house, I was living in poor conditions with my children but now I have got a cow  and milk soon,  thanks to our Government and the RDF who always take care of us” 

The 140 houses inaugurated have three bed rooms each, a bathroom, kitchen, water tank, and cowshed.
