Rwanda Peace Academy in partnership with the Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative have launched on 14 May 2018, a two weeks course on Prevention of Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers.
While officiating the course opening ceremony at RPA Headquarters in Musanze, the RPA Director, Col Jules RUTAREMARA said that the course is very important because it is part of the operationalization of the joint framework of cooperation between the Rwanda Defence Force and Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative.
“The course will enhance the capacity of the participants to identify and counteract recruitment tactics used by various parties to the armed conflict thereby offering more effective protection to the children at risk” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative, the Director of Training at the Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative, Dr. Catherine Baillie Abidi said that by framing the issue of children in armed conflict as a specific priority concern for the security sector, the Dallaire Initiative empowers, military, police and prison personnel to develop better procedures and tactics to not only limit or prevent child soldier recruitment, but also to improve security sector interactions with children.
This course, the third of its kind at the Rwanda Peace Academy, is composed of 24 RDF officers.
