Rwanda Peacekeepers Conduct Community Work in Bangui City

Rwanda peacekeepers (Rwanbatt5) serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) with residents of 5th Arrondissement in Bangui City jointly conducted a community work (umuganda) that focused on cleaning the main road in 5th Arrondissement, Bangui City. 

After the function, Rwandans Peacekeepers and residents of 5th Arrondissement gathered to discuss on the path to peace in Central Africa Republic (CAR). The Rwanbatt5 Contingent Commander, Lt Col Nepomscene RUBAYITA urged the community to overcome differences and work for their country. “Even though you are in the middle of a conflict in this this country, you have to keep focusing on all those things that can unite you and help you overcome this insecurity. Building your nation is a must because no one else will come from outside to do for you. As Rwandan Peacekeepers operating under MINUSCA, our mandate is to maintain peace and security in this country without any form of segregation among the people. We respect you all as CAR citizens” he emphasized.

On behalf of residents, Ms ENDJIKELEMO Gisele told the gathering that “We appreciate the Rwandan peacekeepers initiative to support us in this valuable function and we recognize your effort to restore peace and security in our country. We hope one time this insecurity will end.”

The Community work was also attended by members of the “Comité Local de Paix et de Reconciliation (CLPR) of the 5th Arrondissement in Bangui.
