A delegation from Sri Lanka Defence Service Command and Staff College on a study tour in Rwanda.

The delegation of 19 students and college staff from Sri Lanka Defence Service Command and Staff College today 03 August 2018 paid a courtesy call to the Chief Defence Staff at Rwanda Defence Force Headquarters, Kimihurura. They are in Rwanda for a two-week geo-strategic international study tour which is scheduled to take place from 2 – 14 August 2018.

At RDF Headquarters the delegation was welcomed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Patrick Nyamvumba after which a presentation on the organisation, roles and function of RDF was presented to the Sri Lankans students. Talking to RDF media after their visit to RDF headquarters, the head of delegation, Group Captain Chandima Alwis said that his team will benefit a lot from Rwanda and RDF in particular.

“We are fortunate to be here in Rwanda, to listen to the Chief of Defence Staff, to learn Rwandan culture and RDF military doctrine and have a clear picture of Rwandan socio-economic activities as well as improving our relationship. We are also exchanging our military knowledge, developing our future commanders and staff officers for our future militaries, visiting Rwanda and RDF will develop our students’ knowledge and experience on how to handle today’s world requirements”, he said.

Rwanda and Sri Lanka enjoy a fruitful and cordial relationship that has in part a defence and cooperation agreement. Currently, RDF personnel are training in Sri Lanka in different military career courses.

Before the delegation headed to RDF HQs, they had visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and later were briefed on the roles and functions of Rwanda Defence Force at RDF HQs. During the tour, the delegation will visit different government institutions of Rwanda.
