Rwanda Defence Force and Malawi Defence Force Strengthen Defence Cooperation Ties

Kigali, Thursday 30 August 2018The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Malawi Defence Force (MDF), on Monday 27, August 2018 in Lilongwe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on defence cooperation. The purpose of this MOU is to enhance military relations between Malawi and Rwanda focusing on training, combating international terrorism, institutional development, military to military visits, and regular exchange of information related to security and public order and any other field of mutual interest.

Malawi’s Major General Paul Phiri and Rwanda’s Major General Ferdinand Safari signed the MOU in the presence of the RDF Chief of Defence Force General Patrick Nyamvumba and the MDF Acting Commander Lieutenant General Clement Namangale.

After the signing ceremony, General Nyamvumba planted a tree at Kamuzu Barracks in the spirit of environmental security, visited Kamuzu Mausoleum and Paul Kagame Highway that was named after H.E. Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda. The Rwanda Defence Force delegation also visited key military installations in Malawi.
